The Green Works® Story

We have had so many consumers tell us that while they wanted a clean, healthy & happy home, they didn't want harsh chemical fumes or residues from their cleaning products. They were striving to live a balanced, respectful lifestyle that included using naturally derived products when possible.  So we got to work, inspired to create a line of naturally-derived products that cleans with the power you’d expect from the people at The Clorox Company. Our goal was to set the standard for naturally-derived cleaning and create a truly breakthrough product. So instead of taking an existing formula and removing ingredients we started over. The idea of creating a product that was sustainable, made from biodegradable ingredients and not tested on animals pushed us to work in ways we’d never done before.

And out of all this, Green Works® was born - A line of powerful cleaning and laundry products made using fine naturally-derived ingredients such as essential oils and coconut based cleaners. With Green Works® cleaners, you get:

  • Powerful cleaning without any harsh chemical fumes or residue
  • Biodegradable cleaning ingredients*
  • Products that are at least 95% naturally derived
  • Products that contain plant and mineral based ingredients
  • Products that are never tested on animals
  • Are acknowledged by the U.S. EPA’s Design for the Environment program.

But, don’t just take our word for it. Try it for yourself. Put Green Works® products to the test – after all, seeing is believing.

*Cleaning ingredients will biodegrade when disposed of down the drain

Green Works® products frequently asked questions

Q. Where can I find Green Works® products?

A. Green Works® is available in the cleaning aisle at all major stores where cleaning products are sold.

Q. What does naturally-derived mean? Are Green Works® products 100% naturally-derived?

A. When we created Green Works® naturally-derived cleaners, no industry standard definition for naturally-derived cleaners existed. To create Green Works® naturally-derived cleaners we set ourselves a very stringent standard. The ingredients must come from renewable resources, be biodegradable and be free of petrochemicals. Green Works® cleaners are at least 95% naturally-derived. In certain cases we had to use synthetic ingredients, like the preservative and green colorant. But we’re working hard to develop naturally-derived alternatives so the entire line can be 100% naturally-derived.

Q. Do Green Works® products disinfect?

A. Not yet. But our scientists are focused on evaluating naturally-derived disinfecting ingredients. We hope to incorporate disinfecting into Green Works® cleaners in the future.

Q. Is The Clorox Company merely jumping on the green bandwagon?

A. We've been working on naturally-derived products for the past 5 years. We set ourselves a difficult task–to set the standard for natural cleaning and create products that clean with the power you’d expect from The Clorox Company. In fact, we delayed Green Works® products from hitting the shelves by 6 months to further perfect the formula. We are fully committed to continuing to develop naturally-derived products that continue to set the standard for natural.

Q. What does the Design for the Environment (DfE) logo on Green Works® cleaners mean?

accreditation 95

A. The United States Environmental Protection Agency created The Design for the Environment (DfE) Program to reduce risk to people and the environment by preventing pollution. When you see the logo it means that the DfE review team has screened each ingredient in the product for potential human health and environmental effects. Based on currently available information, predictive models and expert judgment they determine that the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class.
